Hey independent journalists, want to contribute a story to Crossing The Line (CTL)? We are looking for solid news and documentary features, interviews, exposes, and vox pops around the issues facing Palestine and Palestinians.
IMPORTANT: Before you sit down to record your piece - please read the following guidelines:
- Familiarize yourself with the type of stories we air. It is the best way to get a sense for the kind of stories we seek and the format we use. For instance, in your introduction you should always begin with; "In occupied Bethlehem (or wherever your located at the time) I'm…and you're listening to Crossing The Line."
- Don't send generic pitches. We are not interested in titles such as "Abbas at the Crossroads" or "The Future of Palestine"
- We like investigation. Send us a fact-based, well-written, revealing investigative story we haven't seen in the mainstream press.
- Do send us stories that are funny or risky. CTL readers want to be surprised; they are looking for outstanding information and scrupulous analysis.
- Stay away from technical or obscure language. CTL readers are well-informed individuals from all parts of the globe, but they are not necessarily specialists in your field. Assume that they do not have the patience for long drawn out analysis, insider jargon, etc... CTL believes in making big ideas accessible to the widest possible audience. The trick is to strike a balance: CTL stories should be an indispensable reference for debate among specialists, yet they should also engage a general-interest listener.
- Do send us stories related to: human rights, public health, money laundering, development, global economy, corruption and governance, technology, the future of war, culture, immigration, the environment, global and regional trends, international finance and business, multilateral institutions, religion, terrorism, non-governmental organizations, but all in the context of Palestine and Palestinians.
- Please make sure that if your piece is selected that it is in an MP3 format and no longer than the following for various topics:
Interview: 8 to 12 minutes
Documentary Feature: 8 to 12 minutes
Exposes: 8 to 12 minutes
News Feature: 5 to 8 minutes
Vox Pop: 3 to 5 minutes - Do provide original research or reporting to support the story.
- One last thing, CTL - at present - is an English language podcast. Please, when submitting your audio, send us a complete transcript translated into English in order that we can provide the proper voice-over for our listeners.
Please feel free to contact the executive producer and host of Crossing The Line, Naji Ali at najiali@riseup.net to pitch your story
