What is The Dilettante Cook?
Most people like to eat. And most people also like to eat well. Unfortunately, many people would also say that you need an advanced degree in the culinary arts to get the know-how to prepare truly great meals. To that, we say: RUBBISH!
You don't have to be a professional chef to be a darned good cook. In fact, being a bit of a dilettante is all you really need. And that's what The Dilettante Cook is all about.
So, what exactly is a "dilettante"?
The dictionary defines the word this way:
1. a person who takes up an art, activity, or subject merely for amusement, especially in a desultory or superficial way; a dabbler.
2. a lover of an art or science, especially of a fine art.
So, if you're a dabbler in the art of cooking, and a lover of good meals, you're in the right place.
Unfortunately, the established elite in the culinary arts scoff at the notion that amateur cooks could prepare excellent dishes. Food critics look down upon the idea that everyday cooks might have the skills to make truly good meals. How can we fight these well-entrenched enemies of common cooking excellence? How can we discover their secrets, and share them with the eager masses of aspiring cooks everywhere?
Hearing the anguished cries of amateur cooking fans, a privately funded group of dedicated professionals built a secret underground complex dedicated solely to discovering the tricks of the culinary masters. Safe from the prying eyes of the culinary elite, the brave crew of the Dilettante Cooking Research Center (DCRC) works tirelessly to unlock the secrets of great food and bring them to the masses of aspiring cooks everywhere.
And what better way to distribute this knowledge than through the exciting new media of podcasting? Every couple of weeks, the DCRC distributes another podcast, available for free to everyone who wants to know about the essentials of great cooking.
This is the show for you, The Dilettante Cook!
